Shared note | He was born in Grandview Manitoba on November 9, 1905. His parents where pioneers in that part of the country and he grew up with the spirit of the pioneer. Neighbourliness, consideration, hard work, and a good sense of humour were qualities he carried through life. Upon graduating from high school in Grandview, Manitoba, Albert moved, to rejoin his parents, to the Rio Grande Valley in Texas where they were involved in truck farming, (Market Vegetable Farming), on his father's 30 acres. For about a year, Albert also worked as foreman on another ranch, north of Edcouch for about a year. The Family travelled by car for the trip to Texas and camped out each night in a makeshift sheleter in and around the car, which was loaded with their few possessions they managed to take along, even strapped onto the roof. This would have been about 1920. In December 1932, he moved with his parents and Lila's son John Mathews, in his late twenties, to Victoria to stay with his great aunt Eliza (Ruller) Joynt, who had no children. He wasn't there long, but long enough to meet Evelyn, the girl across the street. Early in 1933, he was off to Trail BC, to join his brother Monty, to work in an automobile service station there. Evelyn was not forgotten. The postman was kept busy and on April 5, 1938, he went to Victoria and claimed his bride. Home was made in Trail. Three sons were born to them and no one could have been happier or prouder. His family came first. At the age of 67, he retired and after the best holiday of his life, (Lots of golf), they settled in the Parksville area, north of Nanaimo BC. On February 26, 1982, he passed away in Vancouver on the way home from a vacation in Arizona, He was a family man and greatly loved. He enjoyed his golf and his garden. He respected the needs and feelings of others. We sorrow with his loved ones and pray God's comfort will be real to them at this time. (Excepted from "1824 Montezuma's Papers", by Phyllis Egan) |
