Ruler_Ann's unknown spouse solved
Apr 15th, 2004 at 8:31pm

I was thrilled today, to find the marriage of Ann Ruler, daughter of Isabella Ruler and sister of William George, to a Peter Plant, both of Wellesley, on the 14th of July, 1847! The marriage was performed by Reverand Mathew Nichols, the Primitive Methodist Minister for Wellesly. Witnesses were Isaac Newton and Thomas Ruler. About 15 years ago an elderly aunt of Mel Ruller's said she thought Ann Ruler was married to a peter Plant, but she didn't know which Ann. Now this proves that she was close. The information is in a book at our local museum in Elora, "The Marriage Register of Upper Canada West, Vol 9. Part 1 Wellington District 1840-1852"
This brings up another unsolved mystery, what ever became of Thomas Ruler, youngest son of Isabella? I have a record of his birth in Yorkshire, He is mentioned in the 1851 census in Wellesley as "working as a shoemaker in the mill store at Hawksville" and now the above reference to him witnessing his sister's wedding. I haven't found any other clues to Thomas's whereabouts after that? Can anybody help?

Thanks Melinda;

These do look like a good fit for Anne Ruler's spouse Peter Plant.

More research required.

I'd like to try some earlier censuses, like 1851, 1861 etc., when they might still be around the Wellesley area where they got married.
